Stop name: Barry Road outcrop of the Gamilaroi Terrane

Location: ~6 km SE from Nundle towards the Hanging Rock, along the Barry Road

Coordinates: 31°28'32.31"S, 151°10'16.09"E to 31°28'27.15"S, 151° 9'55.33"E

What to see: There is a road cut of ~700 m between these two locations. This is a section from limestone to pillow basalt, representing parts of the Gamilaroi terrane intra oceanic island arc. The northern side of this outcrop has light grey-coloured fossiliferous limestone, which then transits into massive to pillow basalt. Pillow structures are most visible towards the southern end of this outcrop.

Additional data: A petrographic thin section of an altered ocean floor basalt (19BA01 from Thin section collection)
